Tabletop Exercises
Preparation for Drills and/or Functional Exercises
While usually unfamiliar to schools and district offices, Tabletop Exercises are utilized extensively by public safety and the military. We utilize two qualified and experienced consultants one from education and one from public safety -- to design and facilitate the session, the Tabletop helps key participants to brainstorm problematic areas and potential approaches to an emergency situation before practicing the recommendations in drills or functional exercises. As site and district teams gain experience, subsequent tabletops, with or without outside facilitation support, can address more complex issues.
Our Code Red team is uniquely qualified to introduce this process. We bring first hand expertise from public safety and schools. We know what is expected from public safety of schools and district offices. We also have extensive backgrounds beginning in the classroom, so we are fully aware of the challenges in meeting those expectations. We design each tabletop exercise to fit the realities of the school or district office. Our approach is pragmatic and focuses on keeping children safe while meeting federal or state mandates and local needs.
Our clients continue to share similar responses following the exercise: wow, we didn't even know what we didn't know; you made this so safe and easy; we can't wait to take this back to our staff; we're ready to drill! Just what we want to hear!
Shared Approaches
Each of our team members has extensive field experience. Beyond our expertise, and because we have worked with so many schools in tabletops, functional exercises, simulations and debriefs of actual events, Code Red Training brings a wealth of shared experiences and Best Practices from other elementary, middle and high schools.
Types of Tabletops
Code Red Training has designed and facilitated small site based tabletops, focused solely on the school or district office response to a natural emergency (earthquake, etc.). Our team has also designed and facilitated large scale district or regional tabletop exercises. Our tabletops have been both for education and for multiple systems participants.
